Use the second color from your left of the stem palette to outline large areas of shadow on your mushroom stem.

Set your floodfill tool
to the following settings.

Fill in all of the areas of the stems as shown below.

Now use the third color from your left on the stem palette to draw in some sketchy shading between the dark and light colors. Like below.

A closer look. This effect is best achieved with your paintbrush set to size 1 pixel. In Photoshop use your pencil tool set to 1 pixel.

Use the first color from your left on the stem palette to draw even some darker shadows with the same sketchy effect, like below.

A closer look.

Use the first color from your left on the under palette to add shadows coming from the top and bottom, to the underpart of the mushroom tops.
Like below.

Use the first color from the left on your mushroom top palette to add sketch shadows like below. The shadow going in toward the middle gives the mushroom some depth.

Use the third color from your left of the top palette to add some lighter color to the center of the mushrooms above the middle shadow and below it. Go over that with the fourth color from your left on the palette to make it stand out even more.

Now use the fifth color from your left on the mushroom top palette to add highlights around the top of the mushroom and just below the middle shadow of the mushroom. I would not add this highlight to the little mushroom but you certainly can if you feel it would add some oomph ^_^

Now we are going to make the polyps on this mushroom really stand out so they actually look like they are coming off of the mushroom, rather than flat against it.
Use the second color from the left on the polyps palette to add shadow at the bottom of the polyps. You can see already that the polyps ( nope, I am not sure if that is what they are really called he he.. but anyhoo... ) are already getting alot of depth.

Now use the first color from the left on the polyps palette to add shadow at the very bottom of the polyps, over the shadow you just added, leaving a little bit of it toward the lightest color. See below.

Now use white to add circular highlight to the top of only the bigger polyps. Again I would not add these highlights to the smaller mushroom.

Use the second color from the left of the grass palette to add some light to each blade of grass like below.

Use the third color from the left of the grass palette and add highlights like below..

And there you go. You have an awesome sketch effect mushroom scene to add your faeries, gnomes or other fantasy creatures to. This mushroom is an excellent size for a splash image and you can also tube your result to use further in your site layouts.
Hope you had fun! See you next time ^_^
